After January 1st 2022 all residential homes being sold and leases being renewed will mean that homeowners must upgrade their smoke alarms to the new Australian Standards. Additionally, as of 2027 all other dwellings must transition to full compliance.
- All bedrooms, hallways and areas between bedrooms must have smoke alarms installed. If there are no bedrooms on a particular level, a single smoke alarm must be installed.
- Alarms are to be hard wired or have 10 year lithium batteries.
- The alarms must be photoelectric.
- The alarms must be interconnected.
